El Shaddai and Et Shaddai

If you had the privilege to be alive last century then you may be familiar with Amy Grant’s beautiful song “El Shaddai”, from 1982. (I was in 8th grade the year it was released.) If you’re not familiar with that song, do yourself a favor and find it online! Her song was the first time I had been introduced to Hebrew (except for “amein” and “halleluYah”). In her song she sings of Almighty El. Never would I have imagined that I would be linking Yeshua to Almighty too, but here we are!

At this point I hope you know that I’m speaking of Yeshua when I refer to the Aleph Tav. If not, or if you’re just now joining us, please go to the previous blog entry. That one is the Alef Tav introduction and I pray it is explained well. 😇 This blog will be showing you a witness of Yeshua as the Aleph Tav in Genesis 49. I’m excited to begin!

Turn in your bible, if you’d like, to Gen 49. We have Jacob on his deathbed with his children gathered around and he says: “Gather together that I may tell you את what shall befall you in the last days (or latter days):” (Did you notice that Alef Tav? There is a stand-alone את in that verse in the Hebrew but we’re not dealing with that one today.)  Go to verse 22 where Jacob begins prophesying to Joseph. His prophecy of Joseph reads, and see if you recognize Yeshua in these verses:

22 – “Joseph is a fruitful bough, A fruitful bough by a well; His branches run over the wall.

23 – The archers have bitterly grieved him, Shot at him and hated him.

24 – But his bow remained in strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the Mighty of Jacob (From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),

25 – From El of your father who will help you, And Et Almighty who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb.

26 – The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.”

Verse 25 in Hebrew reads (copied from blueletterbible.org) with Et Shaddai in bold letters:  מֵאֵל אָבִיךָ וְיַעְזְרֶךָּ וְאֵת שַׁדַּי וִיבָרְכֶךָּ בִּרְכֹת שָׁמַיִם מֵעָל בִּרְכֹת תְּהֹום רֹבֶצֶת תָּחַת בִּרְכֹת שָׁדַיִם וָרָֽחַם׃

What I am trying to get across, and non too gracefully, is that Yeshua is telling us that He is Almighty too! Almighty Yeshua! The verse just before that points to Him as the Shepherd and the Stone of Israel! Even the translators caught those references because they’re capitalized in my bible, but they didn’t catch the “Et Shaddai”!  Be blessed!

There is also a video of this witness. https://youtu.be/tXk0KYrHiSI

P.S. – The reason I began doing these witnesses of Yeshua from the older testament is because I have a very dear uncle that renounced Yeshua as Messiah in 2012. This uncle took me under his wing when my father was killed in a car wreck back in 1990, and has been very dear to me my whole life, even asking him to baptize me when I was 10 years old instead of my dad. I had even worked for him at our family business for 21 years. His rejection of my Messiah broke my heart, so I began doing those short videos praying that he would happen upon them some day, in Yah’s timing, seeing the truths of Yeshua written millenia before Yeshua was even born, and repent like Nebuchadnezzar. That is still my prayer because I still love him very much. But now you know what drives me. 😇

Shabbat shalom, b’shem Yeshua haMashiach! ❤

Rev 5:11 – Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,

12) saying with a loud voice:  “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing.

13) And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:  “Blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!”

It's not about me, it's about my Father, His holy, unchanging Word, Yeshua made flesh! No ear tickling here. (And maybe a couple of posted recipes that I've been unable to find online elsewhere. 😉)
