The book of 1 Samuel nears it’s close with the Amalekites taking David and his mens’ families captive while they were gone from their town. David’s troops come home to find their town pillaged, burned with fire and everyone gone. First Samuel 30:4-6 reads:
4) Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5) And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive.
6) Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
When trouble is pressing down on you or it seems like nothing is going right or that everyone is against you, look to YHVH and take comfort and strength from His word. Also, David’s psalms are very comforting, Psalm 91 being one of my favorites.
Chazak, chazak, v’neet’chazak! Be strong, be strong, and let us strengthen one another!
